Advocacy Summit Program

Advocacy Day Overview

The Survivor-Caregiver Summit, promoted and hosted by IGCS, will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Javits Center in New York, NY, USA.

Gynecologic cancer experts, patient survivors, caregivers, and advocates from all around the world will gather for Advocacy Day to network, learn, and discuss the topics below. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect, network, ask questions and share their experiences during and in between panel sessions.

The Summit will have areas of focus that include science, survivorship (quality of life), and research advocacy. We will have a diverse group of physicians, researchers, patients-survivors, caregivers, and other individuals attending and speaking at the Summit. Come prepared to capture and share the day with your camera phone!

All educational presentations, material, and discussions will be recorded and accessible to everyone who is not able to participate in person.

2022 Summit Highlights

International Gynecologic Cancer Advocacy Network (IGCAN)

We will provide an exciting update to the IGCAN – including network goals, programs, and member benefits – and explain how you can get involved and join the IGCAN. The purpose of the IGCAN is to raise awareness of gynecologic cancers and empower survivors/patients, caregivers, families, and communities worldwide. Panelists will also discuss the new IGCS Research & Advocacy Program.

“Conquering Cancer” Film Screening

During the lunch break, we will be hosting a screening of “Conquering Cancer“, a feature documentary that brings to life stories of women who have survived cervical cancer. The film also showcases testimonials from health care professionals who work on eliminating cervical cancer through vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV), screening, and treatment. After the film, we will facilitate discussions at each table where you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and reflect on the film’s powerful message.

Global Health Equity through IGCAN: Cervical & Uterine Cancer Survivorship

This panel session will highlight the need to increase advocacy efforts worldwide related to cervical and uterine cancer survivorship. Gynecologic cancer experts will cover the evidence and proven interventions to improve overall care, outcomes, and long-term treatment plans, globally.  Survivors will discuss quality-of-life concerns and share their unique perspectives on survivorship.

The Every Woman Study in LMIC Regions

The Every Woman Study is a joint initiative of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition (WOCC) and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS). The LMIC edition of the study aims to bring new insights and increase global collaboration to improve survival and quality of life for those affected by ovarian cancer. During this session, IGCS and WOCC representatives will discuss the study’s goals and findings thus far.

Optional Before- and After-Summit Networking

Start the day with the opportunity to network with other patient advocates, survivors, and caregivers attending this event. You will also have a few minutes to chat and network in between presentations and after the Summit concludes. We invite you to continue the discussion of presentation topics, share your experience, make new friends, and otherwise network! When the scheduled programming concludes, a joint reception will be hosted by IGCS and our Strategic Advocacy Partner, The World Ovarian Cancer Coalition (WOCC).
